Tips For A Safe and Comfortable Charter
All fishing tackle and equipment is provided including bait. Life jackets are available in case of emergency. Life jackets for children are available but please bring your own for your child's comfort as the life jackets onboard are for emergency purposes and are big and bulky. Rain gear is provided as well as coffee and cups. However, you may want to bring additional food and drink. For safety reasons alcohol is discouraged on many of our boats. Please feel free to check with us.
Please dress for the weather. It is cooler on the water than it is on land. Wear clothing in layers. It is coldest in the mornings and you may remove layers, as it gets warmer during the day. Don't forget to bring a warm jacket. A stocking hat or scarf to block the wind is also recommended. Please wear sensible shoes such as tennis shoes. Wearing sandals or flip flops are not practical and can be dangerous. The glare off of the water and the wind are very hard on your skin so sun block is recommended. Tuna Fishermen: It is recommended that you wear rubber boots and rain pants/bibs. It is a bloody business and new Chinos are not a good idea.
All Dockside boats have restrooms (heads) and cabins but when you are fishing you will have to be out on deck where the action is. Some of our boats are well suited for handicapped people so if you do have any special needs please inform us when making your reservation.
To help avoid sea sickness always get a good nights sleep the night before your trip. Eating a light breakfast of non-greasy foods might also help. If you are prone to sea sickness you may want to see your local doctor before coming to Depoe Bay about prescription motion sickness medication (Scopace is a new prescription drug which people say works really well) or purchase over the counter medications. Over the counter medications are better used if they are started the night before your trip and then again in the morning of your trip. Be prepared for "FUN" as all of Dockside's skippers will work hard to make your trip a fun and enjoyable experience.
Customers are required to secure their reservation with a credit card. Dockside requires a 24 hour cancellation notice with the exception of emergencies and illness. Our boat operators are making their living on the ocean and no-shows are harmful to this process so we ask you to please be courteous if you are not planning on keeping your reservation by giving us a call.
(~Credit card or deposit required on all advanced reservations~)
