Fishing Report: 05/07/2021

Rough seas today kept the Dockside fleet at the dock today. Yesterday the seas were windy and choppy but we got limits of Rockfish quickly, a few Lings and then made their way home. No report on crabbing.

MID-SEASON BAG LIMIT ADJUSTMENT

Yesterday we received notice from ODFW of a mid season adjustment on our Rockfish bag Limits. Effective May 10th, 2021 the Rockfish bag limit will be adjusted down by one fish, giving us a limit of five Rockfish per person per day. The Ling Cod limit remains at two, over 22 inches. Oregon fisheries managers made the adjustment based on record high fishing effort and catch rates in the month of April. The change is a proactive measure to keep us fishing while not exceeding our annual quotas on Rockfish.

The bag limit for Long Leader fishing remains the same at ten Rockfish per person per day. No Ling Cod may be retained on the Long Leader fishery.

Give us a call at 541-765-2545 or book online on this website.

The Dockside Fleet is looking for personnel to fill positions as deckhands. Working as a deckhand can be rewarding for someone who enjoys fishing and the ocean. Applicants must be presentable and personable, able to interact well with the public. Pre-employment and random drug screens are required.

Great Salmon news:

ODFW has announced the Coho season dates and quotas. For our region the season will open June 12th (that ism early compared to recent years). The quota is 120,000 fin clipped fish or until August 28th. The non-selective opens September 10th for each Friday, Saturday, Sunday through September 30th or until a quota of 14,000 fish are taken.

We have some exciting news to share:

Captain Chris has upgraded the Outer Limits from a 43' Delta to a 50' Delta. He is hard at work installing a new state of the art electronics package, building a new bait station and adding pole holders and all the other things that will make it a first class vessel for our waters. It should be ready for service May 1st. Captain Chris will engage in all our fisheries, nearshore and offshore. More room, more comfort, more fun. Win Win Win!

The other big news is that Captain James, after years of running the six man boat Triumph has purchased the Samson. It is definitely a step up for Captain James and he has worked hard and long to earn it. James started as a Deckhand for Lars on the Samson a decade and a half ago eventually getting his Masters license and went out on his own with the Triumph. Now Captain James will carry on Lars's legacy on the Samson for safety, fun and personal service. We are pleased that the Samson will stay in Dockside's fleet with James at the helm.

These changes now give Dockside the largest fleet of Delta charter boats we know of. The Deltas have long had the reputation of the best boats to do what they do. They were designed specifically for use in the charter industry, maximizing size, comfort, sea keeping abilities with a well earned reputation for safety and tough construction.

ODFW Staff recommended 2021 PACIFIC HALIBUT Sport Seasons: Officially adopted 04-23-21

Central Oregon Coast Subarea

Spring All-Depth Season:

Fixed Dates: May 13-15, May 20-22, June 3-5, June 10-12, June 17-19, and July 1-3.
Back-up Dates (available if quota remains): July 15-17 and July 29-31.
Quota = 172,244 pounds.
For the Central Oregon Coast spring all-depth fixed dates, based on input from last week’s public meeting, the online survey, and anglers calling staff directly, staff are recommending 18 fixed dates, skipping weeks with a morning low tide that is lower than negative two feet. There were some recommendations from the public for a more conservative approach (15 fixed dates instead of 18), though the majority preferred 18 fixed dates. The ODFW staff recommendation is based on trying to balance all of those considerations of opportunity, quota risk, safety, etc.

Summer All-Depth Season: Opens Aug 5-7, then every other Thurs, Fri and/or Sat until the earlier of quota attainment or Oct 31. Initial quota = 68,351 pounds. Any overage taken during the Spring All-Depth fishery will lower the Summer All-Depth available quota.

2021 Halibut Season:

Nearshore: Opens May 1, seven days per week, inside the 40-fathom line, through the earlier of quota attainment or Oct 31. Quota = 32,591 pounds.

Fishing Report: 05/05/2021

Dockside was out again today on a great ocean. The wind was calm and the swells were small and the fish were biting. The Ling Cod bite was excellent and so was the Rockfish. Limits of fish was the order of the day. Crabbing was better today that it has been.

Fishing Report: 05/02/2021

The Dockside fleet enjoyed good seas and good fishing Friday and Saturday. The fish didn't come easy, everyone had to work for them but overall the trips were very successful. Good catches of Rockfish and quite a few Lings. The Lings were off the bite but there were still some fine ones taken. Crabbing picked up a little so that is encouraging.
